William Schaffner, MD

Professor and Chair, Department of Preventive Medicine, Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Dr. William Schaffner is Chairman of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Professor of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Schaffner’s primary interests are infectious diseases and their prevention, and fostering collaborative relationships between academia and public health. He has worked extensively on the effective use of vaccines in both pediatric and adult populations.

Dr. Schaffner is a member of numerous professional societies. He is also a consultant in public health policy and communicable disease control for many national and local institutions, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the WHO, the Tennessee Department of Health, the American Hospital Association, and the American College of Physicians, among others.

Dr. Schaffner is a graduate of Yale University and Cornell University Medical College.
