After finding that some batches of chickenpox vaccines produced at its Wavre, Belgium, factory were not up to standards, GlaxoSmithKline has stopped worldwide deliveries of the vaccines. The quality issue affects Priorix-Tetra—a combined vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella—and Varilrix, a single chickenpox vaccine. Glaxo intends to re-allocate its 2014 supply to minimize the disruption and expects shipments to resume at the end of the first quarter.
