Cambodia has administered measles and rubella vaccines to 1 million children since launching a nationwide campaign on October 21, according to its Ministry of Health. The campaign is targeting all children ages nine months to 15 years, for a total of more than 4 million children. Phase I, which focused on nine provinces, is nearly complete, while Phase II will run through the remainder of November and Phase III will follow in December. “The demand for measles and rubella vaccine has been almost overwhelming,” according to Health Minister Mam Bunheng. Cambodia has been free of measles since the last case was reported in November 2011. Bunheng noted that the campaign will help protect against the importation of measles from other countries.
