New Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine Gets FDA Nod

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a four-strain inactivated influenza virus vaccine, manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur under the name Fluzone Quadrivalent. The vaccine is approved for use in individuals aged six months or older, adolescents, and adults. The new vaccine will be available as injections in the United States for the 2013-2014 influenza season. Fluzone Quadrivalent vaccine includes two A strains and two B strains of the flu virus. The vaccine is not recommended for anyone with severe allergic reactions to any vaccine component, including egg protein.
