The Utah Department of Health has rolled out the StopWhoopingCough.org campaign to slow the spread of whooping cough, which jumped 142 percent to 1,497 cases last year from 618 in 2011. So far, nine of 12 local health departments are taking part in the campaign. The Web site provides information to the public about the disease and where they can get vaccinated, and it even allows expectant parents to send emails to friends and family to encourage them to get vaccinated before visiting the baby. Lewis Garrett, director of the Davis County Health Department, says staying current on vaccinations is crucial to curtailing the disease.
