In Canada, Alberta Health has secured new supplies of polio vaccines and says they are due in the province in September. The announcement comes a week after public health officials told parents to reschedule appointments for their children to receive the polio booster shot. A national shortage has depleted Alberta’s stock of the vaccine, according to Dr. Martin Lavoie, the province’s deputy chief medical officer of health. Although an alternate supply was due in November, public health officials were concerned that Alberta did not have enough doses to last until then. “We’re still keeping a very close eye on the situation until everything is completely resolved,” Lavoie said. “We’re fairly confident right now we’re going to be OK and won’t be short anywhere.”
