Given recent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, parents should make sure their children’s vaccinations are up-to-date prior to heading back to school, according to Wisconsin Association of School Nurses President Louise Wilson. If parents add vaccines to their back-to-school to-do lists, they should have ample time to make appointments with their doctor or local clinic to meet state vaccination requirements. Under Wisconsin law, students without religious or philosophical exemptions to vaccine mandates must provide proof of vaccination within the first month of school.
