The U.K. Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), in response to a complaint, told Babyjabs.co.uk to remove a misleading statement that the MMR vaccine could be responsible for up to 10 percent of autism cases in the nation. The Web site, which provides vaccine advice to parents, also was ordered not to repeat other claims made about the vaccine. Although the ASA says the site does clearly state that the government and the medical establishment have rejected Andrew Wakefield’s allegation of a link between the vaccine and autism, the agency believes the claims made by the site could cause consumers to infer that the vaccine may have contributed to an increase in the number of children with autism.
