The Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) says six pertussis cases have been confirmed among students in North Kingstown—four from Stony Lane Elementary School, one from Davisville Middle School, and one from Hamilton Elementary School. In response, health officials are urging people ages 10 years and up to visit their primary care physicians for vaccination, and two community vaccination clinics are planned in North Kingstown for July 19 and 23. “The best protection against pertussis is vaccination,” says Michael Fine, HEALTH director. “Any child who is not up to date on his or her pertussis vaccination should be vaccinated, and we encourage all adults to get a Tdap vaccine as well.”
