700,000 Infants to Benefit From Free Rotavirus Vaccine

On July 2, Filipino President Aquino and Health Secretary Enrique Ona launched the Rotavirus Vaccine campaign which will work to provide the rotavirus vaccine to 700,000 infants that were or will be born between April 2012 and April 2013. The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s National Housing Targeting System will be identifying the babies from the 5.2 million families that are classified as the “poorest of the poor.” Rotavirus, which causes severe diarrhea and vomiting, is one of the top causes of death for Filipino children under the age of five.
