China has boosted the number of regions that have been struck by avian influenza to 14, reporting that the flu has appeared in five new areas, including several that are hundreds of miles from each other. In addition, the country is grappling with an attempt to prevent a new outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) as a fourth case of the disease was disclosed on Sunday. The World Health Organization has urged China to be as vigilant as possible to prevent the spread of SARS.
