A United Nations spokesman reports that Afghanistan's government will run a major childhood polio vaccination campaign from January 26 to January 28 with the support of the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The goal is to vaccinate some 5 million children five years of age and under, in the hopes of eradicating polio there by the end of the year. Afghanistan has recorded 18 cases of polio since January 2003.
