Parents in Vietnam's Da Nang and Quang Nam regions are strongly urged to seek Japanese encephalitis vaccinations for their children due to a significant increase in infections. Parents there often avoid the vaccine because the illness is not common in central Vietnam. Between April and June of this year, however, more than 700 people, mostly in northern Vietnam, contracted Japanese encephalitis and four children have died as a result of their infection.
