
Experts Warn World Against Dropping Guard, SARS a 'Wake-Up Call'

At the World Health Organization conference in Kuala Lumpur, global health experts are calling for more spending in public health care following the recent severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak and the noticeable deficiencies in the health care system. Preparing for a resurgence of SARS or another virus requires improving day-to-day routines. Public awareness is currently the only tool health experts have against SARS in the absence of a vaccine or treatment, and experts are warning countries to remain diligent against the disease, because it could reappear in the fall.
