The Indian government hospital sector is facing a shortage of the anti-rabies vaccine, which is forcing some dog-bite victims to pay significant costs to receive the vaccine at private institutions. Sources say that at least 300 patients over the last five days could not obtain the vaccine at the Government General Hospital. The government hospital blames lack of supply from Tamil Nadu Medical Services for the shortage, and is currently recommending patients to another hospital while it awaits more funding from the government to purchase new supplies.
