Due to a worldwide surge in demand for the meningococcal type C vaccine, Australia has depleted its supply of the vaccine and is turning away parents who are trying to get their children vaccinated against the disease, according to manufacturer Wyeth Australia. Although the demand has created a shortage of the vaccine, emergency supplies are still available, a Wyeth Australia spokesperson noted. In the last 14 months, meningococcal bacteria has killed about 25 people in Australia, government data shows.
