Flu, Anthrax Similarities Stir Concern

With concern that Americans suffering from the flu will panic and compare their symptoms with the symptoms of anthrax, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson is calling on the pharmaceutical industry to produce more of the flu vaccine and distribute it sooner. "Flu and anthrax poisoning have the same symptoms," including sore throat, fever, and body aches, Thompson noted. Due to delays in flu vaccine production this year, October's flu shots were reserved for high-risk individuals, such as the elderly.
