Seniors Furious Over Shortage of Free Flu Shots

In Taiwan, a shortage of flu shots--which the government is providing free of charge for the fourth consecutive year--has outraged a group of Taipei City seniors who have yet to receive the immunization. Public health clinics began offering the vaccine on Oct. 2 and had to call in more staff to handle the flood of eligible patients, which this year includes all people over the age of 65 as well as patients with weakened or compromised immune systems. In response to the complaints, the government's Center for Disease Control deputy director general, Chiang Ying-lung, announced on Thursday the release of the last 100,000 doses of the free flu vaccine, which was expected to be used up by the end of the week.
