Millions of Kids to Get Shots
Orlando Sentinel; A16

[06/10/2001]

Over 16 million Brazilian children under the age of five are being targeted in a polio vaccination effort that started on June 9, according to the country's health ministry. Although the last reported case of polio in Brazil was over 10 years ago, Brazilian health officials said they are committed to continuing vaccinations until the disease is completely eradicated worldwide. The vaccine was distributed at 119,000 locations throughout Brazil on Saturday, and health officials also provided shots against German measles, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough.
