After two West Branch High School students died from meningitis and one Marlington High School student was diagnosed with the disease, 4,200 students and teachers in Ohio were vaccinated against the disease on Friday. A total of 5,800 individuals were eligible for the free shots. On Friday, more than 150 health care professionals ran four free inoculation sites in Stark, Mahoning, and Columbiana counties for students and teachers at six schools who were potentially exposed to the disease. The meningococcal vaccine will provide protection from the disease within two weeks, and one student noted that, "as long as no one else comes down with [meningitis] before then, everyone will worry less."
