Bioterrorism Preparedness

Because of the September 11 terrorist attacks and the cases of anthrax that occurred in the U.S. in October 2001, concern that anthrax or smallpox may be used as weapons of bioterrorism has increased. NNii recommends the following resources to help answer healthcare professionals� questions regarding bioterrorism.

The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), an NNii partner, has compiled a comprehensive web page which addresses bioterrorism concerns and questions. The page answers common questions, provides slide sets and images, and links to several additional sources of information.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published articles in�Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report that describe potential biological weapons, with special focus on anthrax, and recommended actions for various health professionals.

The National Institutes of Health MedlinePlus site offers anthrax and smallpox links, including news articles, research reports, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment information, articles in Spanish, and more.
