A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences indicates that women may have a “more robust response” to vaccination than men. Researchers looked at the antibody responses of 53 men and 34 women of different ages who received the flu vaccine and found that women had stronger antibody responses and higher inflammation cytokine counts. They determined that testosterone may play a role, as study participants with higher testosterone levels had weaker immune responses.
