Cuba recently reported 163 new cases of cholera to international health monitors. The cases in the cholera outbreak are linked to the Havana, Santiago, and Camaguey provinces. In Havana, the outbreak was traced to two food distribution centers. A dozen travelers from European and Latin American nations also have contracted the waterborne disease. Last summer, Cuban state media reported that cholera had sickened 417 people and killed three on the island after recording no cases of the disease for years.
