An outbreak of whooping cough has been detected in Nevada County, Calif. So far, 12 children at seven schools have been diagnosed with the disease. The county, which has the lowest rate of whooping cough vaccination in California, is on alert. Tex Ritter, county director of public health, noting that “before [children] show symptoms, they will actually be incubating the bacteria and be able to spread it for about 10 days.”
