Parents Warned as Measles Cases Soar on Teesside

The U.K. Health Protection Agency says children and adults in northeast England who have not been vaccinated against measles are now at risk. Health officials have confirmed 54 cases of since September, and there has been a total of 104 confirmed and 93 suspected cases during the measles outbreak. The number of cases is the highest in the region in 18 years. Northeast England recorded 41 cases of measles in 2012 and 18 in 2011. Teesside has been hit the hardest. Health authorities are reporting an increase in cases involving children under one, who are too young to be immunized. People between the ages of 10 and 19 and are unvaccinated school children and young adults account for 41 percent of the cases.
